The Program in Biotechnology Education is a collaboration between Marin County educators, students, industry and academic scientists, and the Marin County Office of Education. The program's focus is to enhance molecular and cell biology education for high school students. PROBE, which began in 1991, has been changing the science education experiences for hundreds of students in basic, general, and advanced classes in the many schools it visits. With the help of industry and university scientists, it has enabled Marin County educators to develop exciting and practical curricula. It has exposed students to the societal issues and implications of the new biology as youngsters study to become informed voters. And, it has stimulated students to consider careers in the biological sciences.
