Curricula
Day 1: Products of Biomanufacturing
This lesson kicks off BABEC’s week-long “Introducing Biomanufacturing” Lesson Series. Students begin with a card sort activity to match various products made from both biomanufacturing and traditional manufacturing with the starting material and key molecule that is used in each. They then consider what distinguishes organic molecules from other types of molecules and how to read their chemical structure. Finally, students choose a product from biomanufacturing that interests them to research throughout the week. The culminating project is an infographic that organizes their findings about their product.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe different products of biomanufacturing.
2. Define “”organic molecules”” and describe their structure.
